PSKC

Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC) is a long-term study to track the growth process of Korean children. Currently being conducted by the KICCE-a national research institute under the Prime Minister’s office-PSKC is the first national panel study on newborn babies in Korea.

Sampling Design

  • Aims at gathering cross-sectional data in order to compare the characteristics and trends of children participated in
  • Aims at identifying the effects of implementing child care support policies since 2009 and consequently reflecting them when establishing child care policies in the future and contributing to the well-timed establishment of child care policies.
  • Two interviews were carried out: An interview at medical institute with mothers of newborns less than a month old A telephone interview with mothers four months later

Survey Target

  • Survey PopulationHouseholds with babies born in maternity hospitals nationwide from April to August, 2010
  • SamplingTwenty-eight hospitals were selected based on the sampling framework used for PSKC 2008. Sampling was then carried out based on the percentage of pilot sample households extracted in 2008.
  • Final Sample for the Medical Institution InterviewA total of 1,000 households with newborns in 2010 at 28 hospitals nationwide
  • Final Sample for the Telephone InterviewOut of 794 households agreed to participate in four-month later telephone interview, 731 households took part in the interview. The interviews were done from September to December, 2010.
