The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education signed an MOU with the Korean Society of Pediatric Behavior and Development Medicine (Chairman of the Board of Directors Park Yang-dong) and the Korea Children’s Hospital Association (President Choi Yong-jae) on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. In this MOU, the three organizations have agreed to cooperate on developing and carrying out policy research agendas to identify early on which children in early childhood are at risk for disabilities or have disabilities and to support them, on making joint efforts to improve the environment where diagnoses, consultations, and treatments are carried out for young children with developmental language or cognitive delay, and on other exchanges deemed necessary by each organization. The MOU signing ceremony was held with the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education’s President Park Sang-hee, Head Director of the Office of Planning and Coordination Choi Yoon-kyung and Director of the Office of Early Childhood Education and Care Policy Research Kim Eun-seol, Korean Society of Pediatric Behavior and Development Medicine’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Park Yang-dong and Director Han Eun-hee, and Korea Children’s Hospital Association’s Vice President Lee Hong-jun in attendance. “An MOU with the Korean Society of Pediatric Behavior and Development Medicine and the Korea Children’s Hospital Association broadens the focus of early childhood policies related with the provision of currently existing education and care services, and so we expect that it will be an opportunity to broaden the scope of policy research by supporting a healthy growth and development in the early development process,” stated President Park Sang-hee from the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education. “By presenting the right path in child care, we hope that this will be the first step towards changing the fear of child care into the joy of child care,” said Chairman of the Board of Directors Park Yang-dong from the Korean Society of Pediatric Behavior and Development Medicine. “We are grateful to join in the efforts to reveal the holes in child care policies which we encounter in real world practice in today's low fertility era, and we are very excited to embark on the journey to find the guiding principles of Korea's child care policies starting now,” stated Vice President Lee Hong-jun from the Korea Children’s Hospital Association, who was in attendance on behalf of President Choi Yong-jae. The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education will cooperate with the Korean Society of Pediatric Behavior and Development Medicine and the Korea Children’s Hospital Association on policy research agenda development and environmental improvements to support children in early childhood who are at risk for disabilities or have disabilities.
